Ron Howard Ron Howard and Brian Grazer

LOS ANGELES, 25 MARCH 2002 - 'A Beautiful Mind', directed by Ron Howard, won the OSCAR as best picture of the year. The film about the mathematics genius John Nash was presented with four awards out of eight nominations: best picture, best director (Ron Howard), best actress in a supporting role (Jennifer Connelly), best adapted screenplay (Akiva Goldsman).
Ron Howard was presented the award by Mel Gibson; Ron's words were: "Thank you. Well, I am not a good enough actor anymore to be able to stand up here and make you believe that I haven't imagined this moment, it won't be believable. I'm grateful for an entire lifetime spent involved in this creative process that is directing.  Before my mom passed away, about 18 months ago, she predicted that this was going to  happen for me on this film. Well, she also made that prediction on every movie that  I've directed since 1983. So, now you know a little something about my mom. Thank you, Mom."
Ron Howard had just come down the stage after winning the Award for best directing, that Tom Hanks, after a quick introduction of the nominees, read the name of the winning movie: 'A Beautiful Mind' won the Oscar as best movie of the 74th Annual Academy Award. Howard, visibly touched, let the producer and friend Brian Grazer speak: "Thanks, thanks to all the actors. But above all to those who, working in this movie, made everyone know what it means to be ill and suffering from a disease".
With this victory 'A Beautiful mind' had four awards: Jennifer Connelly as best actress in a supporting role, best adapted screenplay, Ron Howard as best director, and best picture.
At the end the director of 'Apollo 13' thanked the Nash family, sitting in the Theatre: "May you have many years of peace ahead of you".
